Overview

Howard County High School G/T Orchestra (HSGTO) is an auditioned orchestra of 85 students from all 12 high schools in Howard County, Maryland. The orchestra is under the direction of Benjamin Denne, Timothy Reinhardt, and Julius Wirth with Tim McKay serving as the director of percussion. The orchestra was founded in 1998 by Kathy Cammarata and was formerly known as The Howard Regional Youth Orchestra. HSGTO performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City in 2004 and 2007, as well as at the Eastern Division Conference of MENC: The National Association for Music Education in 2005.

The Howard County High School GT Orchestra Announces Spring Concert to Raise Funds to Perform at the Prestigious Midwest Clinic in Chicago. Columbia, MD, April 29, 2009. The Howard County High School GT Orchestra (HSGTO) will be holding their Spring Concert on Sunday May 17, 2009 at 8:00pm at The James Rouse Theatre at Wilde Lake High School (5460 Trumpeter Road, Columbia, MD 21044). Tickets will be sold for $10 at the door and all proceeds will go towards helping to fund the orchestra’s trip to perform at the 2009 Midwest Clinic held December 15-19 in Chicago, Illinois.

The Midwest Clinic (www.midwestclinic.org) is one of the largest music conferences in the world. Held every year during the 3rd week of December, the Midwest Clinic commands an attendance of over 15,000 participants representing all 50 states and 30 countries. The HSGTO is honored to be one of ten orchestras selected to perform for the 2009 clinic.

The program for their May 17th Spring Concert will include works by Barber, Khachaturian, Kalinnikov, and Grieg.
